Natural Resources


Rachael Whitehair is a Natural Resource Educator for Wood County and a water quality outreach specialist for the surrounding Central Sands area. Rachael develops and supports ongoing water quality improvement efforts as well as farmer-led watershed initiatives focused on soil health and water quality.

She works with county land and water conservation staff, state agency staff, and others to fulfill goals focused on mitigating non-point source agricultural pollution.

Rachael began her role at Extension in 2019. Prior to joining Extension, Rachael worked as a graduate research assistant at Iowa State University developing and evaluating a professional development program for agricultural advisers. She has also served as a physical science technician for the United States Department of Agriculture, as well a naturalist for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Rachael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a Master of Science degree in agricultural extension education from Iowa State University.
